GROUNDED llc was created by Angela Curtes in response to what she believed is a strong need for re-building healthy, living, and nutritive soils for long-term farm production, soil and natural ecosystem resilience, and healthy development of the individual. A native of Wisconsin, Angie has worked for over 23 years in the fields of environmental and wilderness education, natural and farm lands preservation, and soil fertility and compost production and education.
After graduating in 1992 in Environmental Studies and Alternative Education from Prescott College, Arizona, Angie co-founded and co-directed ‘Common Earth: Educational Adventures of the Earth and Mind’ for 8 years in Marin, California and worked for 4 years as an Educator and Education Director of the Pacific Environment and Resources Center (PERC), an international non-profit. In 2000, she moved back to her family’s farm in southeast Wisconsin where she began working for the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust as their Lands Specialist and Assistant Director guiding natural area and farmland preservation efforts to preserve over 2,000 acres in 7.5 years. Angie was hired as the first Acting Executive Director in 2008 of Yggdrasil Land Foundation, a national biodynamic and organic farm land trust.
In 2012 her work became focused on land preservation in East Troy, WI for Skylark, Inc. where she worked to develop a comprehensive strategy to protect 900 acres for organic and biodynamic agriculture, research, and education. This interest in biodynamic agriculture led to a 2-month intensive study, under mentors Roland Ulrich and Bruno Follador in southwest Germany, where she learned the controlled heat fermentation compost method and chromatography. In June 2012 she implemented a compost pilot project producing over 160 tons of humus-quality compost within a 6 month period. She has also set up a chromatography lab to test base farm soils and compost qualities. In 4 years, Angie produced and applied over 1,000 tons of compost to the organic and biodynamic farm in East Troy.
Angie soon realized her passion and calling was to create the highest quality biodynamic compost in order to provide the foundation for healthy and highly nutritional food for beings of the Earth to achieve their fullest physical, mental, and spiritual potential in light of the growing global illnesses that are the result of the toxic industrial food system. With growing demand for Angie's compost, she officially launched GROUNDED llc in the summer of 2015. Today GROUNDED llc sells compost, designs and implements small to large-scale compost production systems, offers compost training workshops, provides land preservation services, and operates one of the few chromatography labs in the nation. Angies continues to volunteer her time and skills to non-profit organizations including the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, Lac Lawrann Conservancy, and the Mid Kettle Moraine Partners.
